As a person who spends most of her waking time sitting, I found that the Acuvibe Personal Massager is a great complement to my Homedics Shiatsu Back Massager, because it is a handheld spot massager. Human Touch manufactures chair massagers as well, but theirs are much more costly, as they are actual cushioned chairs – not just mats. The Acuvibe is designed specifically to work on tender spots, such as the neck and shoulders.

All Homedics models come with an integrated strapping system, which makes it conveniently and easily attachable to almost any chair. Rather than invest in a very expensive office chair, you can transform almost any chair into an incredible massage chair. On chilly days, I use the heat option to warm-up my muscles before stretching, which I must do several times a day. The heat helps ease muscle tension, while the massage mechanisms help to stimulate circulation. For someone like myself with chronic back and neck pain, I keep my back massager secured to my office chair and turn it on about once every hour and let it run for about 5-10 minutes while I continue to work. When I have pain in a specific spot, such as a stiff neck, I use my Personal Massager to work these places. Therefore, by personal experience, the best advice is to use both of these products in tandem.

Shiatsu therapy today is known as a combination of various finger pressures on different key point areas in the human body. It is known as a Japanese massage technique that works in the balancing of the chi in the body to prevent and remove sickness. This is accomplished by keeping a free flowing energy in our body as blocked meridian points are believed to be the cause of most diseases among individuals. That is why balancing the chi or energy is vital in having a healthy condition that can have a stand against any sickness attack such as colds, depression, and many more.

Shiatsu can be traced back in Ancient Japan as a form of alternative healing during that time. One member in every family is knowledgeable in shiatsu massage technique so that someone in the family can heal all of the family members and keep them healthy. The massage therapists are called Teate which are usually women or blind people in the Japanese society.

There are a multitude of massage techniques. Knowing what a massage technique is or what it can do for you is sometimes confusing. One of the more popular massage techniques is Shiatsu massage. We will see what it is and how it works.

Shiatsu derives from both the ancient healing art of acupuncture and from the traditional form of Japanese massage, amma. Shiatsu is a Japanese word: “shi” meaning finger, and “atsu” meaning pressure and is based on acupressure. It can be likened to acupuncture without needles – using finger and thumb pressure instead. Shiatsu can be done through light clothes or directly on the skin.

Shiatsu balances the body’s QI (energy, or life force) to keep your body’s systems in perfect harmony. The goal of each of the different types of Shiatsu being practiced, Zen shiatsu, tsubo point therapy, shiatsu massage, and water shiatsu “watsu”, is balancing energy flow. Shiatsu can also stimulate the healing of specific injuries and improve symptoms of poor health such as chronic pain, soreness, stress, insomnia and other conditions that are not effectively treated by Western medical practices.
